SIL4 system-level safety certification marks progress in the safety architecture, reliability and engineering application of autonomous perception systems.
SIL4 System-Level Safety Certification Achieved
On November 15, 2021, AIFORAIL's independently developed ITE system passed assessment by RINA Services S.p.A. and received SIL4 system-level safety certification. The system uses a multi-core CPU architecture; the certificate and supporting technical documents define its scope and conditions.
SIL (Safety Integrity Level) is defined by functional-safety standards across four levels from SIL1 to SIL4. SIL4 is the fourth level, with corresponding requirements for reliability, failure rates and safety architecture.

ITE Intelligent Train Eye SIL4 Certificate
The certificate covers Intelligent Train Eye (V1.0) and was issued on November 15, 2021.
The certificate states that relevant ITE safety functions were assessed under EN 50126, EN 50128 and EN 50129 and meet the applicable SIL4 and SIL2 requirements and certificate conditions.
Continuous Technical Accumulation from SIL2 to SIL4
Since 2018, AIFORAIL has focused on perception and control for autonomous rail operation. TIDS received SIL2 safety certification in 2019 and accumulated operational data in projects including Hong Kong's Tsuen Wan Line, supporting development of the SIL4 ITE solution.
Coordinated Progress in Positioning, Perception and Safety Computing
ITE targets fully automated operation and train-to-train communication, combining multiple sensors, high-precision maps and safety computing. Under the documented test conditions it supports decimeter-level autonomous positioning and train-target perception up to the 300-meter class. Actual performance depends on line, target, weather, installation and configuration and is subject to project documents and acceptance results.
From Assisted Warning toward Autonomous Train Control
ITE perception output can coordinate with vehicle safety-control systems to provide autonomous perception during signaling degradation or train-ground communication anomalies. Company materials state that it has been applied in related Beijing Line 11 work to explore cooperation between autonomous perception and signaling.
